"Racism isn't all hatred and raving. It is generations of unspoken politeness. It is the unearned benefit of the doubt shared among white people, and denied to everyone else.
It is selecting a few brown people to give partial access, and quietly avoiding the rest. It is saying 'most' or 'us' or 'everyone' or 'anyone' when what you really mean is white. (It is finding the adjective 'white' offensive.)
It is choosing to say nothing over telling the truth about harm and danger to black, brown, and indigenous people.
Racism isn't just monsters. It's nice ladies next door who love you until the lights go out, and are well-protected once they accidentally hurt your family.
Stop looking for monsters. Look for your neighbors instead." » Atena Oyadi
